Where Your Donation Goes
Donations from Pet Valu customers are used to fuel a variety of different programs and care incentives:
The cost of routine veterinary care is offset.
Care packages are sent overseas to handlers and dogs. These packages include a variety of treats, toys, and smaller healthcare items like eye and ear drops.
Gear & Equipment
The latest in safety gear and equipment are sent to handlers and their dogs. These packages include doggles, boots, cooling vests, etc…
When MWDs are retired overseas, they can’t legally board military planes, so they can get left behind. The USWDA works to make sure these dogs get home safely.
Specialized Medical Care Program
Retired dogs can still have a variety of health issues (mental, physical, and emotional) and require specialized care and attention. This program provides essential medical care free of charge.
In association with their specialized care, if a dog requires prescription medication, this program covers the cost incurred. These prescriptions can add up to almost $1,000 monthly.
If a veterinarian feels a cart or dog wheelchair is necessary care, it will be provided and covered.
Emergency Medical Assistance
This program will reimburse owners for any emergency medical care that is inquired through the retired dog’s life up to $500.
Retired dogs can be adopted once they have finished service. First priority is given to former handlers and law enforcement agencies and then is open to the general public. Some adoption processes will include travel costs to retrieve the dog from his country of work and bring him home.
Monuments and Memorials
For retired working dogs who have passed, memorial services and monuments can be provided with no cost to the owner.
Rainbow Bridge Assistance Program
This program will cover or reimburse the cost of euthanasia and cremation services.
USWDA and it’s partners are constantly working to better improve the conditions and rights of working and retired dogs.
Free RX Cut Prescription Discount Card
Prescription Cards are available to the general public without fees or costs attached. Use of this card is free, with fees coming from participating pharmaceutical companies. Fees are donated to existing programs.
The cost of becoming a member of the United States War Dogs Association, INC. is donated to existing programs.
